computer controlled records come through with a four track power house of acidic dancefloor destruction for their latest outing. this one comes courtesy of finnish producer boneless one, who unloads with an arsenal of twistedacid and future electro. one for the warehouse heads and the party monsters.

public releases hits the lab for some aural alchemy and to turn out its first release of 2017. a four-tracker from moscow’s phil gerus, scenes—or, in the producer’s native russian, &#1089,&#1094,&#1077,&#1085,&#1099,—manages to have a makeup that’s both peculiar and magnetic. the title’s a fitting one, every track feels like a vignette in a collection of short stories. separately, they’re self-contained, but a rich narrative arch is added when they’re sewn together. if there is a theme here, it’s of viewing the future through the dusty lens of the past, and each of the songs explores this in its own fashion. the kick-off, “ohashi sky garden,” starts as a hyped-up italo space epic, pumped full of swirling synth licks and sharp, tight drums, but it mutates into something completely its own when vocal samples (90s r&b?) and warm keys (prog rock rhodes?) enter. after the original’s brisk five minutes, the legendary richard sen—graffiti guy, breaks guy, house guy, disco guy, half-of-padded-cell guy—steps in to give it a trance-y tinge while doubling its runtime and adding a dancefloor-destroying hi-nrg coloration. the b begins with “naha swim,” a crunchy funk foot-stomper that might as well be an unreleased idjut boys or ray mang ditty dug up from the noid catacombs. fiery and furious, yet utterly cheeky. serving as a sort of coda to “naha” is “kiss of a kind,” a gerus take on 80s adult contemporary, replete with sleazy sax and sensual pads. a gentle nightcap to a zigzagging, antic 12-inch

manchester-based producer cleric continues to grow through his own clergy imprint with the label’s 7th release, “rules of reality”. the ep is an exercise in fully-focused. highly-distilled techno purity, leading first with a perpetuating drum groove offset against an icy stab on “unwritten future”. next, “unspoken rules” channels the same minimalistic aesthetic into a more hypnotic mood, driving deeper down into a land of introspection with tension-laced percussion and hovering chords, whilst “unwanted arrival” exhausts the pressure with its mind-comsuming acid pattern, followed by the more exposed, cinematic “beatless mix”.

off the back of their first ep release, super fun bumper editions trends, which received support from the likes of xl8r, thump, future classic, and bradley zero, beats of no nation is now gearing up for its second release by the chord memory band. chord memory band is a recent collaboration between michael medlycott (from the band vulture street tape gang) and dom bird (bonn co-founder and member of the live disco 4 piece mitzi). at the end of 2016, michael and dom caught wind of a cave, nestled beneath a sacred mountain, deep in the australian outback. the rumours described a cave filled with nocturnal animals and ancient flora, but more importantly, a stash of vintage synthesizers and drum machines. guided by whispers and caught up in the mystic mystery of it all, the duo set off with a dusty four-track tape recorder in an attempt to capture these mythical cave vibes and place them on a record. michael and dom surfaced several months later, with four recordings and no memory of what had occurred. these recordings became their synergistic third eye ep – an analogue journey into the spiritual world, with one simple message, the answer is inside.

voodoo down returns to the compilation series that started it all: possible side effects vol.1, released in late 2012, was the first release on the brooklyn-based label and marked the inception of a concept ep series that would come to define the labels sound. featuring an a1 cut by german journeyman producer stl and rounded out by the label founders’ eclectic techno styles, pse vol. i was the perfect vehicle for the producers still working to carve out their own individual aesthetic. now with a dozen releases under their belt, the founders l estasi dell oro, nconduit and 12 x 12 have returned to their roots and this time recruited the prolific berlin-based producer deadbeat for volume three of the series. like the first two volumes, its a slightly chaotic mix of beefy dance floor tools and heady experimentation. the separate personalities shine through more than ever on this release. vdr always striving to keep things interesting.
